Ute Trail River Ranch is set amidst spectacular natural beauty and offers bountiful outdoor opportunities from fly fishing just out your cabin door to hiking in solitude in the Lost Creek Wilderness.
~ Cabin guests of Ute Trail River Ranch fly fish on a mile of pristine, private waters of the winding Tarryall River, starting at our footbridge and going upstream to the Ranch's boundary fence. All lodging reservations include fishing access to this stretch of river for at least one cabin guest. Additional cabin guest rods may be included in your reservation for a nominal fee. Fishing on the Ranch is restricted to fly fishing (with fly rods & reels) and to catch & release only. We provide some of the finest fly fishing gear for guests to use for a modest rental fee. ~
~ ~ In addition to the fine stretch of water just out your cabin door, guests of Ute Trail River Ranch can enjoy even more fly fishing experiences on spectcular & exclusive sections of the Tarryall River!
The South Park Fly Fishers program (detailed at www.southparktrout.com) offers fly fishing experiences on private ranches for a day-use fee. This additional water is available on a first come/first served basis through advance reservations only. ~ ~ ~You set the pace and choose the distance when hiking into the Lost Creek Wilderness on uncrowded, forested trails that start just outside your cabin door. The Ranch sits at 9,000' and the trail to Bison Peak takes you up to 12,400' offering breathtaking views of South Park and surrounding mountain ranges from on high! Wildlife (elk, deer, big horn sheep, black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, eagles, great horned owls, coyotes, etc.) abound in the area.~
~Birders are invited to add their own sightings to the growing list of birds observed in this area (you can read this list on the "Seasonal Activities" page). During the summer, Ute Trail River Ranch hosts dozens upon dozens of hummingbirds (broadtails, black-chinned, calliopes and rufous). In recent years, we have exceeded 200 lbs. of sugar each season for the nectar that fills the feeders! ~
~Star-gazers gather at Ute Trail River Ranch and the surrounding area to experience dark night skies overflowing with stars, planets and meteor showers.~
~Wintertime brings ice skating on the frozen river, cross-country skiing on freshly fallen snow, sledding down rolling hills, and snowshoeing up the hiking trails.~ ~The crackle of a campfire warms the heart and soul on cool evenings. And, what campfire would be complete without savoring a delicious, gooey S'more?~
~ALL OF THIS, and more, AWAITS YOU at UTE TRAIL RIVER RANCH!~

RAINBOWS & BROWNS & PIKE(!?!), Oh my!
Ute Trail River Ranch is in a prime location on a spectacularly beautiful & diverse stretch of the Tarryall River. Access to the Ranch's private water is limited to cabin guests only. Great fly fishing experiences are just a cast away for anglers who will enjoy a variety of water here from deep pools & undercut banks to rushing water & riffles below the beaver dams. The river boasts healthy populations of rainbow and brown trout (and the occasional northern pike that escaped from the Tarryall Reservoir, 4 miles upstream). As one guest described his fly fishing experience on the Ranch, "This is a great alternative to the South Platte."
At Ute Trail River Ranch, we advocate healthy rivers, streams & wetlands. Therefore, in an effort to provide a quality fishing experience for all our guests and to maintain the well-being of our private stretch of river, we do reserve the right to monitor & manage the number of anglers permitted on the river at any given time.
Fly fishing gear ~ rods, reels, hip boots ~ are available for guest use on the property while lodging guests of the Ranch. There is a nominal daily rental fee for this gear.
Locally hand-tied flies specifically selected for this area, fly line, floatant, Colorado fishing licenses (which are required for anyone 16 years of age & older), etc. are among the items available for sale in the Tradin' Post, our fly & gift shop.
Regional fishing opportunities (many on gold medal waters) abound on the Tarryall & South Platte Rivers and on the various reservoirs & natural lakes of South Park. We will be happy to assist you in planning the right fishing adventure during your stay with us.
